Building burcell.org

Welcome to bpurcell.org, the personal homepage of Brandon Purcell. I started building bpurcell.org many, many years ago to share information I ran across everyday in my role as a Support Engineer and Consultant for Macromedia/Adobe. As a support engineer and consultant I always had a lot to blog about but as I moved into managment roles at Adobe my technical content dwindled.

I currently work as the Director of Technology for Universal Mind. My primary responsiblity is managing the SpatialKey project and it has been an amazing experience. I have been spending a lot of time working with Amazon Ec2 and will share my experiences through the blog in the future. I truly believe that Cloud Computing is the IT platform of the future and we have built the SpatialKey architecture on top of Ec2.

Although it has been quite a while since JRun 4.0 was released the next release is right around the corner. The JRun team has asked me to post the following message to find developers that are interested in test driving the next release of JRun.

The beta release of next version of JRun appserver,  code named Cheetah, is available. Adobe JRun Team is inviting serious evaluators to give feedback on this beta release. Contact vrreddy@adobe.com to be included in the Beta program.

We believe Beta of JRun Cheetah is reasonably stable and reliable. And we plan to reward those who prove otherwise. We intend to give away fully functional JRun licenses to the users who report highest quality issues during the Beta.

What More ! We are throwing open a JRun Sample Apps Challenge. We invite the beta users to develop sample applications exploiting the new JRun Cheetah feature sets. The best apps developed by you will be rewarded, and on qualification, will be featured as part JRun releases in samples section.

Write Code, find Bugs ! Help us serve you better.

Regards,
Vijayan Reddy,
Adobe JRun Team.

Can you tell us a little more about the new features in the next JRun, so that we can tell whether or not it will worth for us to test it, keeping in mind those new features?

Maybe a note to pass along to the JRun team-- why are they not just posting it to the Adobe Labs site like the other various technologies currently in beta? Just curious; JRun beta seems like it would be a good fit there instead of doing the old-style Macromedia Beta program.

I'm also curious about the new features in JRun to see if they are anything I would end-up using/testing. I'd assume JSDK 1.5 compliance? Maybe even hot deploy?

Sure, Brandon - sign me up. Thanks! -JD

NM, I read the actual post and will contact him myself. Sorry I didn't read further.. -JD

Why not open beta testing program to every one? I think it will be better.

The JRun 4.5 product has been put on hold and will most likely not be released. FYI.
